What Makes A Black History
Maker
The Black History Maker
" One who has made an enduring imprint upon some facet of
national or local contemporary life, and whose activities are
worthy of emulation.
" One who has been first in initiating some activity or
promulgating some philosophy, which made for a better life and
nation
" One who has shown courage in public service, when the
faint-hearted would have cringed.
" One who was a first or held a record the longest in some
great cause for the uplift of humanity.
The Immortal
" Unending existence
" Enduring value
" Embodiment of the strength, courage and commitment of Black
American heroes and heroines whose contributions to society have
changed the course of time.
" A member of the pantheon of African American history
Annually, at the beginning of the national observation of Black
History Month, the Black History Makers Awards dinner pays tribute
to and honors extraordinarily outstanding African Americans and
persons of African descent whose exemplary character, professional
achievements and personal service to both the African American
and world community have made an enduring imprint and are a model
for emulation by young African Americans and youths of African
descent.
Associated Black Charities is a private not-for-profit charitable
federation that supports New York community based health and
human
services agencies that comprise its membership. The Black History
Makers Awards Dinner is the principal vehicle that raises the
money for grant making to member agencies. In addition, Associated
Black Charities honors Black Philanthropy with the William H.
and Camille O. Cosby Award,
named after two people whose philanthropy we celebrate and strive
to emulate.
The Black History Makers Awards
dinner is among New York City's most stellar philanthropic events

of leaders from academia, business and commerce, government and
politics, entertainment, and the international community.
