Safe Space, formerly known as The Center for Children and Families, was started in 1919 as the Queensboro Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. It is a multi-service agency whose mission is to protect and nurture at-risk children, strengthen troubled families and give disadvantaged adolescents the help they need to develop goals, gain skills and attain satisfying lives. Services include residential programs for teens, family counseling, mental health, youth development, HIV/Aids prevention and health, residential drug treatment, advocacy, after school programs, case management, clothing distribution, crisis intervention, employment & training, food services, medical care, mentoring, pregnancy prevention, reproductive health services, recreation, and programs for homeless youth.
